Glenworth Estate, owner of Glendale Tea Estate has ties up with Shangri La Tea Co of the US to setup a retail chain of Tea shops. Shangri La is best known for Hot Tea and Iced Tea. Shangri-La holds a gold medal for the best Iced Tea for the past 7 years in the US.
Glenworth has already drawn up the action plan. They are in process of finalizing the venues. They plan to reach three segments – high-end cafes serving as tea parlors, exclusive centres in select spots like airports, railway stations, food courts and entertainment outlets and also kisoks in high bracket institutions and factories besides petrol pumps. They will serve ready to drink teas, iced teas, hot teas and flavored teas.
The first few outlets will come up in Nilgiris which is the home for tea manufacturers. Each outlet is estimated to be setup at a cost of Rs 15 lakh. The outlets will be equipped with modern tea machines with technology support from Shangri La USA. Glendale also holds a Guinness Book record for fetching $600 a kilo in Las Vegas tea auction.
