Lifestyle luggage retailer Samsonite is turning its focus on other needs of the trendy travelers, such as Shoes, Watches, EyeWear and hence become a complete lifestyle retailer. Last year the company has launched shoes.
Samsonite Watches and Eyewear will be designed for special use by travellers enabling them to market on travel and tourism platform. Watches for instance will feature multiple time zone readings which will eliminate the need for travellers to reset back and forth.
Mr. Subrata Datta COO of the company said,
The Indian market will be playing a key role in Samsonite’s growth story. Luggage is coming back to fashion again. Understanding this need, American Tourister is introducing two lines catering to the hard side segment next year which will be marketed as fashion merchandise.
American Tourister will add 25,000 sft retail space FY 2009 and taking up its retail point of sales presence to 500 on PAN India basis.
Samsonite will import Shoes, Watches Eywear from its facilities in Europe to retail in India and are likely to be bit expensive due to the duty.
