Shoppers Stop – Tough Economy, Same Store Sales Muted

India’s Leading Lifestyle Retailer, Shoppers Stop’s same store sales growth remained muted at just 5%, despite of an extended sale season. Overall sales growth for the departmental store format was higher at 17% due to 11 new stores opened within the last one year.

Shoppers Stop – India’s Largest Department Stores – Performance Outlook 2012

Shoppers Stop is the largest department store chain in India. The company also has a 51% stake in Hypercity, a hypermarket format. We’d like to review the performance in the past quarter and outlook going forward.

Central Mall Changes Central Theme from “Mall” to “Departmental Store”

India’s Retail Sector Pioneer, Kishore Biyani has undertaken yet another change in strategy on the advise of Lowe Lintas by converting Central Mall to Departmental Store. It will now have smaller boutique like spaces with its existing large sized stores as well and focus on its own private labels which offer higher margins. To get the feel of how the first store looks like, one can visit the Bridage’s Orion Mall in Bengaluru.

Shoppers Stop – Gaining on Operational Metrics + Discount Season

Shoppers Stop, India’s premium Departmental Store chain reported sales growth of 15.0% YoY to INR7.08bn. East and North India contributed 15% & 13% sales growth while South contributed mere 2% and West witnessed a 10% decline primarily due to cannibalization in Mumbai and Pune and a delayed marriage season.
