Trent Ltd, a Tata group company is looking for apparel retailing of foreign brands in India via franchisee route. Tata’s have tasted the success of foreign brand retailing in their Electronics and Consumer Durables JV with Woolworth which is running Croma Electronics Retail stores. Trent operates Star Bazaar – Hypermarket, Landmark – Books and Music retail chain, Westside – Apparel and Home accessories and Italian Fashion brand Sisley.
Mr. Noel Tata of Trent said,
We are talking to foreign companies, European companies particularly for setting up their stores in India. Real Estate is our biggest hurdle and late delivery of properties is also creating a problem in setting up Star Bazaar and other formats operated by Trent.
Birla Retail is also in talks for apparel and accessories retailing with DKNY.
