The company started retailing with exclusive stores and have 150 stores / parlors and they plan to add another 150 by the end of 2009. They also have the concept of shop-in-shops in large format departmental stores such as FoodWorld in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Typically these shops are just 70-90 sft in size but do brisk business for the company. Mr. Saket Gore, head consumer Division, said,
There are30 shop-in-shops now. The company has 130 products across its various divisions including pharmaceuticals and consumer products.
Himalaya’s consumer division is focused on skin, hair and oral care. It will very soon launch “neem” based face wash, face pack and soaps as well. The neem face wash is one of the largest selling products in the market.
Himalaya has went for a complete brand make over. They launched their products under the brand name “Ayurvedic Concepts” but started individual branding once their products were known to Indian consumers.
